Maternity Leave Trust Fund

A maternity trust fund has been set up in order to finance the provision of

maternity leave salaries in the private sector.

When an employee goes out on maternity leave, the employer has the option to

submit a claim form for the salary for that period of maternity leave, and the

employer will in turn be fully refunded.

In the event that the employer fails to pay the contribution, he will not be in a

position to request such a refund. Furthermore, the employer will be subject to

fines and penalties as stipulated in the Social Security Act.

In the August FS5 declaration, employers will be required to start paying a

contribution of 0.3% of the basic wage of all their employees (both male and

female). Further information will be circulated once the updated FS5 declaration

is made available to us by the Inland Revenue Department.
